Shepparton Health Data.

Looking for some statistical health data on Shepparton?? 

The Hume Region Office of  the Health Department have a fact sheet available for Shepparton published in November 2012.  This document compares the LGA (Shepparton) with the Hume Region as a whole and the State of Victoria for a range of Health Determinants and Health Status factors including:

     Unemployment rate
     Educational Level
     Life expectancy
     Cancer Incidence
     Diabetes incidence
     Unintentional Injury Rate  

Some facts about Shepparton:

More than half the population (53.9%) did not meet the dietary requirements for fruit
  and vegetable intake, compared to Victoria (48.2%)

More than half the population in Shepparton are overweight/obese (53.3%) compared to Victoria (48.6%)

Around one in four people (24.4%) did not meet physical activity guidelines, compared
to 27.4% for Victoria

Shepparton is ranked 10 out of the 79 LGAs for people who reported a high/very high
degree of psychological distress (14.8%)

Shepparton is ranked 5 out of the 79 LGAs for people who smoke (25.4%)

Australian hospital statistics 2011-12 : Emergency Department care - updated December 14, 2012

In 2011-12: - there were more than 6.5 million presentations to public hospital emergency departments - 72% of patients received treatment within an appropriate time for their urgency (triage) category - almost two-thirds of patients stayed in the emergency department for 4 hours or less, and 90% had left within 8 hours and 30 minutes

Australian hospital statistics 2011-12 : elective surgery waiting times  - released October 16, 2012

In 2011-12: - About 662,000 patients were admitted to Australian public hospitals from elective surgery waiting lists - 50% of patients were admitted for their surgery within 36 days of being placed on the waiting list and 90% were admitted within 251 days.

Dementia in Australia - released September 27, 2012

In 2011, there were an estimated 298,000 people with dementia. This number is expected to increase markedly over time, with projections suggesting it will reach around 400,000 by 2020 and 900,000 by 2050. Dementia is a leading cause of death, accounting for 6% of all deaths in 2010. Total direct health and aged care services expenditure on people with dementia was at least $4.9 billion in 2009-10.

Incontinence in Australia : prevalence, experience and cost - released December 12, 2012

This bulletin reports on the 316,500 people who experienced severe incontinence in 2009, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers. There were 144,400 people aged 10 and over living in households who always needed help or supervision with their bladder or bowel control. It also presents information on prevalence rates and how much was spent on incontinence (excluding residential aged care costs) in 2008–09.

Older people leaving Hospital : a statistical overview of the Transition Care Program 2009-10 and 2010-11 - released December 7, 2012

Older people leaving hospital: a statistical overview of the transition care program 2009-10 and 2010-11 presents key statistics about transition care services provided to older people directly after discharge from hospital. The Transition Care Program aims to improve recipients' independence and functioning, and has assisted nearly 52,000 people since it started in 2005-06, including 18,000 individuals who received just under 20,300 episodes of transition care in 2010-11. The report includes for the first time an analysis of trends since the program's establishment, and an examination of the final outcomes of people receiving consecutive episodes of care.

Diabetes among young Australians - released December 6, 2012

Diabetes among young Australians is the first report from the National Centre for Monitoring Diabetes to examine the management and impact of diabetes in youth in Australia. Diabetes affects a considerable number of young people: in 2010, about 31,300 Australians aged 0-30 years with diabetes were registered with the National Diabetes Service Scheme. Most (79%) had Type 1 diabetes. This report explores how young Australians with diabetes are managing their condition, their use of health services and the diabetes-related health problems they experience.
