New Dentistry Journal list.


We have just added a Dentistry title list to our Current Awareness Service – please contact the Library if you wish us to e-mail you a copy of the list.  "Tables of Contents" (TOCs)  for the most recently published issues of these titles are available for circulation to staff with requested articles supplied to users upon request to the Library.  Titles available on the Dentistry list include:

Clinical Skills Online.


St. Georges at the University of London have produced a number of videos  demonstrating core clinical skills common to a wide range of medical disciplines.  These videos are available free via the below website and cover  topics  including :

·          History taking
·         Thyroid examination
·         Abdominal examination
·         Respiratory Examination
·         Cardiovascular Examination

Essential Med Notes 2012

 

The Library now has “Essential Med Notes for Medical Students 2012” available for loan.  Formerly titled “The Toronto Notes” this is an up-to-date concise and comprehensive 1400 page review of 29 medical specialties.  It is revised annually by the University of Toronto graduating medical class under the guidance of leading experts.  New features of the book are:

 
·          Quick reference cards with ACLS algorithms
·         50 OSCE practice stations with history and physical exam checklists
·         Over 20 new original medical illustrations

Also available for loan is the “Clinical handbook” which accompanies this text.  The handbook is full of handy tips on commonly encountered clinical problems on the ward.

Library Catalogue - Renewal and Holds.



A quick reminder to everyone that we can now  provide each Library user with their own logon for the Library catalogue.  Logging on allows you to access your Loans record and place holds on books and renew your current loans. 

Please contact the Library if you do not have a logon yet and we will organise one for you.

Please note that all users can search the catalogue  – a logon is not required to search.



Australian Hospital Statistics 2010-11.


The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare have today released their latest report on Hospital statistics, Australian hospital statistics 2010­­­–11,    The report shows:

*   Hospital admissions increased from 8.5 million to 8.9 million between 2009–10 and 2010–11 -the increase in admissions was higher in public hospitals (4.1%) than in private hospitals (3.9%)
*  The increased admissions in public hospitals were accompanied by increased spending - expenditure on public hospitals was $37 billion in 2010–11.
*  ‘Admissions for people aged 85 and over increased significantly in the 5 years to 2010–11—rising by 41% compared with an increase of about 15% for all other age groups.’

Today’s report has been released in conjunction with updates to the MyHospitals website (www.myhospitals.gov.au). A companion report, Australia’s hospitals 2010-11: at a glance, is also available.

Computer Training Room.


 
The Computer Training Room in the Library is not available to users for the next 5 months due to the relocation of staff from the Elsie Jones Education Centre while their new building works take place.   The computers have been relocated to the main Library and staff are welcome to utilize these computers during this period.

The meeting room remains available to all staff and students – bookings can be made via the online booking system on the GVH Intranet or by contacting the Library.
